Brief Summary of Chapters
Introduction
Tom Venuto stresses the importance of fundamental principles, such as no quick fixes, weight loss is not the same as fat loss and that the book is not even purely about fat loss but also about making people fitter and healthier.
Chapters 1, 2: Goal setting and motivation.
As we all should know, goal setting / setting performance targets are very important to reaching what you want with your health. Tom Venuto has done an excellent job in really bringing together the art of goal setting so that it will work effectively for almost anyone.
Chapters 3, 4, 5: Body types, identifying your needs based on body type.
We like the way that Tom Venuto has broken down how people have different body types. From personal experience, almost every trainer I have seen believes that every person's body will respond the same way with the same diet and exercise regime. However, this book stops that idea dead in its tracks, and discusses the contingencies with different body types.
Chapters 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14: Calorie science, importance of certain foods, importance of liquids, and actual meal plans.
Tom Venuto covers some important principles that are often overlooked in other books. This includes the appropriate intake of foods and liquids that should be followed, including a full meal plan to guide you – based on six (6) meals a day.
Tom Venuto also includes a 20 page guide to cover foods that you should and should not eat, including substitutes for some of the unhealthy foods that you may already be eating. That is, foods that burn fat, and foods that turn into fat. There were some that initially shocked us, because at first glance they seem harmless.
Chapter 15: Supplements
Tom Venuto presents his mind on the use of supplements and the supplement industry, and how it is very good at marketing certain overpriced products that have little or no benefit to its user. However, Tom Venuto has included information on those supplements which are important and useful. At first we were a little surprised but glad to see his straightforward approach to many of the supplements in the bodybuilding and weight loss industry, and the influence that advertisements in magazines have on the intention and bias of those magazines.
Chapter 16: Cardio training
In this part, Tom Venuto focuses on the importance of the intensity, length, and frequency of your cardio workouts. He discusses why combinations of each of these factors are critical in weight loss. After all, if you don’t cut down the fat, you will never see the muscle that resides underneath. This book stresses cardio exercise as a very important part of the process. Other programs out there could benefit if they too stressed the importance of the above factors on what normal people think is ‘simply cardio’ – because we found that obviously it’s not.
Chapter 17: Weight training
This section is what would you expect from a natural bodybuilding champion. Tom Venuto covers resistance training that should be done to add strength and muscle as effectively as possible. It covers some questions that people often have, such as how body parts should be split up on certain days to maximize the effect of training. It also includes a full weekly weight training plan.
Other Information:
The Burn the Fat Feed The Muscle package includes four ‘bonuses’ which are another 100 pages of information, however we won’t cover these as they are not the actual book itself, although these extra books are a great addition as they dig deep into the some things that are genuinely important although not many others seem to cover (look on the website site for these).
